Burnt Divulgence

My work was inspired by Barbara Kruger who uses a black, white, and red color palette to convey bold messages. I chose to paint a self-portrait flipping off the viewer to reveal a different side of my personality. This pose also represents some of my internal struggles and thoughts. I used a red, textured background to reinforce the concept of confidence and freedom. The burnt paper in the background represents the burning away of a protective shell (self-restricting words) to reveal truths underneath.
